Big Money, Bigger Lies: The Lobbyists Fueling SB3

Big Money, Bigger Lies: The Lobbyists Fueling SB3

This week, news broke that some of the biggest players behind the push to ban hemp-derived THC in Texas aren’t worried about your wellness, your business, or your freedom to choose. They’re fighting for market control—and they’ve got lobbyists in their back pocket to do it.

Medical marijuana companies in Texas—many of which only serve a small fraction of the population—are losing money. Why? Because Texans found a better way. We found legal, accessible, plant-based options at local shops that didn’t require jumping through hoops or waiting on approvals.

And now those big players are trying to shut it all down.

Follow the Money

Millions of dollars have been poured into lobbying. We’re talking about companies hiring the former chiefs of staff for both Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. They want SB3 signed because it gives them back the monopoly. It’s politics, plain and simple.

Meanwhile, over 8,000 small businesses across Texas—like ours—stand to lose everything if this bill becomes law.

Let’s be clear: this is a power play, not a public safety issue.

The Mental Health Excuse

Lt. Gov. Patrick’s recent press conference tried to stir panic, linking hemp-derived THC to mental illness. But research shows the risk of issues like schizophrenia is tied to preexisting conditions or heavy use at a young age—not regulated, tested products sold in compliance with the law.

We aren’t selling mystery candy. Our products are tested, labeled, and transparent. They help people sleep. Eat. Walk. Breathe. Cope. Live.

So What Happens Next?

Governor Abbott hasn’t made his move yet. He could sign the bill. He could veto it. Or he could let it sit and become law by default.

We’re hopeful he does the right thing—not just for business owners like me, but for the thousands of Texans who’ve testified, called, emailed, and fought for access to natural wellness.

Because this isn’t just about products. It’s about people.

Stay Loud, Stay Strong

Let’s not get distracted by the headlines or the political theater. Let’s stay focused on what matters: protecting access, preserving choice, and calling out the money trail when it threatens the future of real Texans.

We’ve come too far to let special interests decide what’s best for us.

If you haven’t already—please submit a veto request to Governor Abbott. Share the blog. Tag a friend. Stay involved. Your voice matters more than you know.
